Changing System Icons

Windows uses a special group of icons called system icons to display Main items on the Start menu and other miscellaneous objects. The default icons displayed for open and closed folders are examples of system icons.

To change a system icon:

  1. In the Icon pane, choose a new icon using browsing or searching for icons. You can choose an icon from the Favorite Icons too.
  2. Click the System button on the toolbar.
  3. Select the item and click the Set button

You can restore the default image for any system icon.
