Change Executable File Icons

You can change the icon embedded in a file.
In case with executable files Windows displays the first icon found in the file. When you want to change the icon of such a file, Icon Changer offers you the choice:
either
1. change the embedded icon
or
2. do not add a new icon to the file. Windows will display a new icon from the source you specify.

The advantage of the first method is that even if you move the file to another computer, the new icon will be displayed anyway. The drawback is that the content of the file is modified. It results in the checksum being modified and the executable file may fail to work. Before changing the icon of a file, the Icon Changer creates a backup for that file.

The advantage of the second method is that the executable file will continue functioning as before since the file is not modified. The drawback is that another computer will display the old icon for this file.

The program changes the embedded icon for files with the extensions .exe, .dll, .cpl, .ocx, scr, only if Windows on your computer displays the embedded icons for these file types. For example, if all .dll files are represented by the same icon, Icon Changer will not treat a .dll file as executable and will not change its embedded icon.

When the program changes the embedded icon, it adds a new icon to the file. As a result, the file size increases. The size of the new icon does not matter; it can be either bigger or smaller than the previous one.
